easier to be

i baked apple/pear pie today!





it was a spur of the moment thing and it actually turned out looking (and tasting) pretty nice so i decided to take some pictures of it :D
(pardon the lousy quality phone camera)

anw, here's the recipe for anyone who wants to try their hand at it!
it's actually pretty easy, and i based most of it off what i could remember from watching jamie oliver on his show. so it's probably a little modified.

Pastry:
500g flour
250g butter
2 eggs
handful of sugar
splash of milk

Filling:
fruit of choice
ground cinnamon
icing sugar

1. mix flour and sugar (you can alter the amount of sugar depending on how sweet you want the dough to turn out) and rub in butter till everything is crumbly.
(Make sure your butter isn't all melty and runny or the texture won't turn out well. But then again this isn't crumble so it's okay if it doesn't turn out exactly right (: )

2. beat the eggs lightly and add to dry ingredients. (leave just a teeny bit behind for the eggwash later on)

3. add enough milk and lightly mix to make the dough come together (don't add too much or it'll be too runny).

4. Divide the dough roughly into half and put one half away (for the top). Flour the countertop and roll out the other half till it's the right thickness (estimate).

5. Place the sheet of dough carefully onto a pie dish (or something that looks decent enough to be a pie dish and is oven proof) and press it down against the bottom and the sides. Leave a little bit of excess to hang over the sides of the dish and tear the rest of the dough off.

6. Chop your fruits up into chunks (not too small!). This is an apple pie recipe but you can use most fruits i think. I used apple and pear and raisins cause i only had one apple left. But you can add blueberries/raspberries/almost anything you want if you think it won't taste weird.

7. Squeeze the juice of half an orange over your fruits and sprinkle some ground cinnamon and icing sugar on top (according to taste). Toss everything like you would toss a salad so all the chunks of fruit are equally coated in juice/cinnamon/sugar.

8. Pour your fruits into a pie dish and arrange them so that it's slightly heaped in the middle.

9. Roll out the rest of your dough for the top of the pie. Brush the edges of the pastry meant to be the bottom of your pie with the remaining egg and then cover everything with the second sheet of dough. Press the edges of both layers of dough together. (The dough will look lumpy in the middle cause of the fruit but that's alright.)

10. Poke some holes in the dough with a fork and brush the top layer of dough thinly with eggwash.

11. Pop it into the oven and bake for 40-50mins at 180 celsius.

You can serve it piping hot with ice cream (mmmm) or be like me and just eat it straight away if you can't wait! (:
